SCOPE OF WORK Repair Sewer Piping Servicing Dock Restrooms Building 4 VETERANS AFFAIRS MEDICAL CENTER (VAMC) SALEM, VA 24153 Project Description: This project is to diagnose location of the collapsed sewer piping and then excavate and replace piping to put restrooms back into service at the Salem VA Medical Center Campus. 2. Project Details: The Contractor shall perform the following tasks: Locate location of collapsed sewer piping. Remove concrete and compacted soil to access compromised piping. Remove and replace compromised sewer piping. Backfill trench and replace concrete and floor covering to match existing. NOTE: Work shall be performed to minimize disruption to VA Medical Center activities, operations, and movement. 3. Project Specifications and Additional Requirements: Contractor shall be required to comply with all applicable national, state, and local codes adopted in use by the VA. All unlisted relevant specifications can be found at www.cfm.va.gov/TIL/spec.asp . Any specifications not listed below that are relevant to this job will need to be followed as all other codes and applications. Facility Sanitary and Vent Piping SANITARY WASTE, DRAIN, AND VENT PIPING Cast iron waste, drain, and vent pipe and fittings. Cast iron waste, drain, and vent pipe and fittings shall be used for the following applications: Pipe buried in or in contact with earth. Sanitary pipe extensions to a distance of approximately 1500 mm (5 feet) outside of the building. Interior waste and vent piping above grade. Cast iron Pipe shall be bell and spigot or hubless (plain end or no-hub or hubless). The material for all pipe and fittings shall be cast iron soil pipe and fittings and shall conform to the requirements of CISPI 301, ASTM A888, or ASTM A74. Cast iron pipe and fittings shall be made from a minimum of 95 percent post-consumer recycled material. Joints for hubless pipe and fittings shall conform to the manufacturer s installation instructions. Couplings for hubless joints shall conform to CISPI 310. Joints for hub and spigot pipe shall be installed with compression gaskets conforming to the requirements of ASTM C564. Cast-In-Place Concrete CONCRETE SURFACE PREPARATION Metal Removal: Unnecessary metal items cut back flush with face of concrete members. Patching: Maintain curing and start patching as soon as forms are removed. Do not apply curing compounds to concrete surfaces requiring patching until patching is completed. Use cement mortar for patching of same composition as that used in concrete. Use white or gray Portland cement as necessary to obtain finish color matching surrounding concrete. Thoroughly clean areas to be patched. Cut out honeycombed or otherwise defective areas to solid concrete to a depth of not less than 25 mm (1 inch). Cut edge perpendicular to surface of concrete. Saturate with water area to be patched, and at least 150 mm (6 inches) surrounding before placing patching mortar. Give area to be patched a brush coat of cement grout followed immediately by patching mortar. Cement grout composed of one part Portland cement, 1.5 parts fine sand, bonding admixture, and water at a 50:50 ratio, mix to achieve consistency of thick paint. Mix patching mortar approximately 1 hour before placing and remix occasionally during this period without addition of water. Compact mortar into place and screed slightly higher than surrounding surface. After initial shrinkage has occurred, finish to match color and texture of adjoining surfaces. Cure patches as specified for other concrete. Fill form tie holes which extend entirely through walls from unexposed face by means of a pressure gun or other suitable device to force mortar through wall. Wipe excess mortar off exposed face with a cloth. Rebar shall be doweled back to match existing rebar layout with a minimum of 12 insertion with epoxy securing dowel in place Upon removal of forms, clean vertical concrete surface that is to receive bonded applied cementitious application with wire brushes or by sand blasting to remove unset material, laitance, and loose particles to expose aggregates to provide a clean, firm, granular surface for bond of applied finish. 3.13 CONCRETE FINISHES Slab Finishes: Monitoring and Adjustment: Provide continuous cycle of placement, measurement, evaluation and adjustment of procedures to produce slabs within specified tolerances. Monitor elevations of structural steel in key locations before and after concrete placement to establish typical deflection patterns for the structural steel. Determine elevations of cast-in-place slab soffits prior to removal of shores. Provide information to the COR and floor consultant for evaluation and recommendations for subsequent placements. Set perimeter forms to serve as screed using either optical or laser instruments. For slabs on grade, wet screeds may be used to establish initial grade during strike-off, unless the COR determines that the method is proving insufficient to meet r
